Laura Fleming is a psychologist who has provided treatment and assessment reports for clients across the life span, although she has a special interest in adolescents and young adults.
Laura has worked as a psychologist in both government and private practitioner roles. As well as working in forensic contexts, Laura is adept at working with clients with general mental health concerns. A member of the Australian Psychological Society, Laura has also co-authored two articles whilst studying at Bond University.
Laura works from a client-centred perspective – listening to the story of the client and letting the client set the goals, whilst utilising her psychological skills to assist the client to develop their own skills to achieve their goals. This can incorporate aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) including Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Narrative Therapy.
Laura works with clients struggling with lowered mood, anxiety, stress, grief, emotional regulation concerns – including when anger is expressed through aggression (commonly known as anger management), trauma, substance misuse and life skills.
As an endorsed Forensic Psychologist, Laura can provide pre-sentence, parole, and behaviour managment reports, as well as treatment for clients who are in contact with the legal system – both adolescent and adults. Reports and treatment are available for a range of offending behaviours, including but not limited to substance misuse, fraud, sexual offences, violent offences, stealing, and robbery.
Treatment can also be accessed by individuals concerned about their behaviour around pornography use, substance misuse, and use of violence – even if they are not involved in the criminal justice system.
Laura has an interest in working with young people who may be exhibiting sexually inappropriate or violent behaviours, that are not yet involved in the court system or who are involved in the youth justice system.
Laura believes the goal of forensic psychological services is to assist clients gain an understanding of why this is occurring currently in respect to their life story, and to help the client develop goals to live a full life.
