I am a Registered Psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Society. I have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Science/Psychology, Master of Applied Psychology, Post Graduate Diploma in both Psychology and Mental Health Practice.
I am experienced in working with children, adolescents, adults and families in both private and public health settings. I have also conducted several research studies and completed my recent thesis focusing on language processing in the cerebral brain hemispheres, and am committed to keeping up to date with professional development, research and treatment.
My philosophy about therapy is reflected in my collaborative and empathic approach. My approach is based on developing a compassionate working relationship and creating a safe, therapeutic space for each client. I work with each client to explore solutions and understand their problems in a unique way that allows them to improve their quality of life and relationships. Together with the client, we explore the unconscious factors that are contributing to interpersonal patterns, behaviours and emotional experiences. The sessions become a shared, collaborative process where clients are encouraged to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations.
Treatment for Children, Adolescents, Adults & Families
I implement evidence-based therapies that have been tested in scientific research studies, and have shown to be effective in helping people.
I have a particular interest in working with children and adolescents. I therefore tailor assessments and interventions specifically for children and young people, in ways they can understand and connect with. I support children and adolescents with a range of difficulties including behavioural issues such as non-compliance, anxiety disorders, aggression, self-esteem, grief and loss, relationship problems, trauma and mood disorders.
‘Every child’s behaviour is a communication’, and the goal in therapy will be to help assist what a child’s behaviour means. My goal as a Psychologist, is to help understand what their behaviour means. My role may include assisting parents in understanding their child’s needs, and providing both the child and parent with strategies to manage life more effectively. I have received training in the Triple P parenting program; Circle of Security and Friends CBT program for children.
I also have experience working with adults and individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress-related issues (including work and relationship stress), life transitions and changes, grief and loss, low self-worth, and health issues impacting psychological wellbeing.
I have expertise in working with adults in the treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders including depression, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety and phobias. As a Psychologist, I have witnessed the crippling effects of these disorders on people’s lives and it is extremely rewarding to help restore calmness and functionality in people’s lives.
I also offer counselling to couples experiencing relationship distress, and to couples wanting to form a closer connection with each other.
My previous roles in organisational psychology, allow me to assist clients with career coaching, communication skills, goals setting and leadership skills.
Working in a community mental health and hospital setting in regional Western Australia, has given me insight into working with complex and severe mental health disorders and a variety of cultures, including Indigenous Australians.
I have recently moved to Brisbane to complete my studies in medicine, alongside being a Psychologist. As a mother of two young children, I am aware of the hectic pace and stressors of family life. My understanding of human development, relationships and combined evidence based family approaches will enable me to help you and your family meet life’s challenges.
