I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, counsellor, teacher and experienced Guidance Counsellor. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of supporting children, adolescents, adults and families through some of the more challenging periods of their lives.
My experience in both mental health and education has given me a strong understanding of the many factors that can influence our emotional wellbeing. Sometimes people seek counselling because they are experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood or trauma. At other times, they may simply feel overwhelmed, stuck or unsure about how to move forward. For children and young people, difficulties may show themselves through changes in behaviour, emotional regulation, friendships, school engagement or relationships at home.
Approach
I believe that an important part of counselling is creating a safe and trusting relationship where people feel genuinely listened to and understood. My approach is warm, respectful and collaborative. I take the time to understand each person’s individual experiences, strengths and circumstances, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
When working with children, I used child-centred play-based approaches where appropriate. My training in Child-Centred Play Therapy has helped me understand the importance of giving children a safe space where they can express themselves and work through experiences in ways that feel natural to them.
I also enjoy working with adolescents and adults, supporting them with anxiety, stress, emotional regulation, grief and loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, self-esteem and significant life changes. I draw on evidence-informed therapeutic approaches and work collaboratively with clients to develop greater understanding, practical strategies and confidence in managing life’s challenges.
My work as a Guidance Counsellor has also given me considerable experience working alongside children, parents, teachers and families. I understand the pressures that can arise within the school environment and the impact these can have on both young people and their families.
