Tyler is an Australian-trained accredited mental health social worker (AMHSW) with passion and experience in supporting adults and young people struggling with a various range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, psychosis, relationship issues, grief, substance use, and post-traumatic stress. Tyler worked in Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and government sectors and is currently working in public community mental health as a senior mental health clinician to support various populations suffering from enduring mental illnesses. Tyler is passionate about ensuring clients do have access to care that is appropriate and focussed to their specific needs and preferences in his practice.
Tyler’s story of being born and raised in South Korea and studying and living in the Philippines and Australia, helped him better understand the multicultural society we live in and difficulties we often face as an immigrant. Moreover, before working as a mental health social worker, he also served the military in South Korea, and worked in a number of different jobs, such as being a teacher, a cook, and a barista with people from different counties. It has helped him become more culturally sensitive and competent when providing psychological therapies.
He is warm and empathetic and keeps to a non-judgemental approach with a relaxed and engaging style. He works to create a sense of safety and harmony with a range of perspectives and uniquely tailored treatment to the individuals. Therapies practiced by Tyler include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy. He is highly motivated to create effective therapeutic alliance with clients to promote positive changes to make their life more meaningful and purposeful. He offers psychotherapy services in both English and Korean.
